1D2 Facilities
Mettetal Airport is located in the Metro-Detroit area, close (flown over on downwind for RW18) to the M275. Also in the vicinity is IKEA (just outside the pattern) so you can load up on strangely named Swedish furniture!
Mettetal has a single North-South runway, taxi ways and a large tiedown and area. Hanger space is available for short term use, and there are many private hangers available for longer term rent. Fuel is available - 100LL self and full service.

The FBO at Mettetal is on the West side of the runway. There are picnic benches and a well kept grass area that encourages visitors to sit and watch the aircraft movements. There is a low fence around the area so that even young children can play, while you enjoy the view over the runway as low-time students float, bounce and lurch back into the air. 1D2 is too short for touch and goes so on a sunny weekend there is a procession of aircraft making their way back to the take-off position.
The FBO is small and friendly with all the facilities you would expect.
- Free Wifi - High speed Wifi is provided for your laptop, and the signal covers the interior and picnic area.
- Restrooms - Are clean and fresh
- Coffee - Also clean and fresh
- Lounge - Comfy chairs and enough coffee to last sitting out a summer storm, with a view over the runway.
- Computerised Weather Terminal - Live radar and Metar information to help you decide on whether to fly or drink more coffee.
- Computer - A desktop computer is provided, connected to the internet that can be used for flight planning (or just surfing the net).
