Mettetal Airport is ideally situated, a mere 20 miles from Detroit, roughly where I-275, M-14 and I-96 meet. The airport identifier is 1D2 and is located under a ClassB shelf from Detroit Metro Airport. It is also close the the Class D airspace of Willow Run and Ann Arbor airports, and about 40m from the nearest Class C airspaces (Flint, MI and Toledo, OH). Unlike many ‘interior’ airports we also have the possibility of flying along the coastline of Lakes St. Clair, Erie and Huron, all of which are within 30-60 flight time.

KITZE AVIATION FLIGHT SCHOOL operates all year round, Monday thru Sunday and only closes on Christmas day, Easter Sunday, and Thanksgiving day. We accommodate students who fly part-time by having a range of instructors, who (combined) are available most of the day. Night flight students are catered for until much later. Our courses are presented on a one-on-one basis to ensure personal attention which also allows each student to set his/her own pace. This means that we do not have specific dates of admission and every student joins whenever it suits him or her. Our ground school is typically run twice a year, hosted by long-time CFI – Nick Mues. Weather conditions are often favorable from Spring through late Summer. Winters are cold of course, but the temperature rarely gets cold enough to prevent flight and the runway is plowed after heavy snowfalls. However, the ground school is busiest in the cold dark winter, and this is always a perfect opportunity to further prepare and study for the theoretical exams.
