KITZE AVIATION has been operating at Mettetal Airport 1D2, situated to the West of Detroit, for the past 50 years. We specialize in fixed-wing flight training, airplane maintenance and repairs. Mettetal Airport is ideally situated a mere 20 miles from Detroit, roughly where I-275, M-14 and I-96 meet. The airport identifier is 1D2 and is located under a Class B shelf from Detroit Metro Airport. It is also close the the Class D airspace of Willow Run and Ann Arbor airports, and about 40m from the nearest Class C airspaces (Flint, MI and Toledo, OH). New Management Tuesday, 03 January 2012 00:00 | Author: Pete Foster Effective December 2011, Pete Foster became the new owner of Kitze Aviation;  Pete will also serve as the Manager of Canton-Plymouth Mettetal Airport. Pete obtained his private pilot’s license in 1995, became an AOPA member in 1997 and purchased his first aircraft in 2006.  In addition to being a motivated and passionate aviator, Pete is an Army veteran and retired from General Motors in 2002.  He is active as a community volunteer and serves as a reserve officer for the Durand Police Department. In addition, Jim Timoszyk has been named Director of Maintenance.  Jim’s credentials and expertise in the IA/AP field will further enhance our service department.
